Well, we’re back from Thanksgiving break, and I’m trying to get back into the swing of things… I’m also ridiculously starving since I haven’t had my hourly feeding today… man I miss those leftovers. I could really use a nice turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce and smothered in gravy…. Sigh…
Anyways to take my mind off of the fact that all we have in the house is mac and cheese and ramen noodles, I decided to try a sneak preview of the game
Vampires vs. Zombies from Alawar games. Now, you might imagine with a name like Vampires vs. Zombies that it would be a game like Plants vs. Zombies… at least this is what I was thinking and since I love the strategy games, I thought this would be right up my alley.
However, I was definitely surprised when the game was actually much more like the more popular Farm Frenzy games! I know it sounds crazy, but it is definitely a farming game even though you are smacking zombies around.
Apparently zombies are taking over the earth and the vampires aren’t too keen on this since they feel as though they are the most evil creatures on the earth. Anyhow, they decide to do something about it and the first thing they do is create pumpkin farms…. That’s right… pumpkin farms. Apparently zombies think pumpkins are heads and the vampires think they can use these as a distraction.
So you begin the game with some sexy female vampires walking around planting pumpkins. You need to harvest the pumpkins and eventually turn them into jack-o-lanterns and pumpkin bombs. All the while you need to watch out for zombies that will crawl up and attack you. You need to smash them, or click them with your mouse, until they explode. Then you can pick up zombie dust to sell for some well needed money.
You also have to watch out for these cactus-like plants that will magnify the sunlight and burn your vampires if they step on them. You have to throw Egyptian darkness on them to make them disappear. If your vampires stumble on these before they are gone, they will lose health.
Anyhow, overall, the concept was pretty bizarre, but in a unique and fun way. If you’re into the farming games, this is definitely one to try simply because of the uniqueness of the game itself and the concept behind it. The gameplay is very similar to the Farm Frenzy games, so if you’ve played those before, you’ll have no trouble picking this up and you’ll definitely get a few laughs at the humorous characters you encounter and the creative ways they come up with trying to rid the world of zombies.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, all this talk of pumpkins have given me an excellent idea… there must be some discounted pumpkin pie leftover at the store that’s waiting for me to eat it…
